The Grand is a stage for everyone in our community
The Grand is the largest, geographically central arts center in the Down East region of Maine. Called “The Cultural Center of Downeast Maine” by the Lila Wallace Foundation, its programming makes it a dynamic arts, education, and entertainment center for the benefit of the entire community. The Grand offers a wide variety of programming including live performances by acts like The Capitol Steps, Shemekia Copeland, and David Bromberg; over 60 arts, foreign and independent films annually including the ever popular Banff Mountain Film Festival and the Manhattan Short Films; a 30 year history of bringing performing arts to children; and our productions of critically acclaimed musicals like The Full Monty and Beauty and The Beast.
Last season, over 30,000 patrons applauded world-renowned artists in more than 50 live performances; 17,000 film buffs attended unique offerings of art and foreign cinema; and 4,000 students participated in our Performing arts for Children program.
A recent economic impact study by Americans for the Arts states that there is decisive evidence that the nonprofit arts bring business to their communities, with each audience member spending an average of $27 at area businesses every time they visit The Grand.
We attract audiences, spur business development, support jobs, and generate government revenue. The Grand leverages a remarkable million dollars in additional annual spending by our arts audience - spending that pumps vital revenue into local restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and other businesses. |
